The Italian Hydrographic Institute has selected CARIS HIPS and SIPS software for its hydrographic survey processing.
The Italian Hydrographic Institute (IIM) located in Genova, has been the official nautical charting agency of the Italian Navy since being founded in 1872. Its tasks include the production of nautical charts and documents aimed at the safety of navigation, and extend to the processing of all the data - scientific, technological and environmental - connected with the sea. Furthermore, it performs research within the nautical domain.
Joining hundreds of CARIS HIPS and SIPS users worldwide IIM will now have access to the latest technologies as they become available. Among these will be the implementation in HIPS of a new framework from CARIS designed to handle very large volumes of multi-dimensional data called CSAR. Likewise, IIM will have access to integration of Geocoder in HIPS and SIPS for processing multibeam backscatter, which will enable users to produce better quality mosaics than ever before.
Along with the purchase of CARIS HIPS and SIPS, IIM also received two weeks of training on the software at its facilities in Genova. The first week of training covered basic multibeam processing, including calibration and Quality Control reporting, as well as singlebeam processing. The second week covered more advanced topics such as workflows for Total Propagated Error and CUBE processing.
