November marked the end of the CARIS World Tour 2016. Our final workshops were held in Brazil, Ireland, and China – all of which were packed with attendees. In total, the World Tour made stops on five continents, seven countries, and trained 290 people.

Each leg of the CARIS World Tour presented the opportunity for participants with experience as surveyors, data processors, cartographers, and GIS technicians to learn about the next generation of CARIS software architecture, as well as other technology trends that are reshaping the hydrographic industry. Some of the topics covered via comprehensive demonstrations and detailed exercises were:

• Near real-time sonar data processing with CARIS Onboard™
• Variable Resolution (VR) Surfaces
• IHO S-100 and related product specifications
• Vertical Feature Modelling and creation of vertical and near-vertical surfaces with CARIS Engineering Analysis Module™ (EAM)
