CARIS has been awarded a contract by the Norwegian Hydrographic Service (NHS) to deliver a data management and chart production system for the Military Geographic Institute (MGI) of Albania as part of the cooperation project Albanian-Norwegian Hydrographic Information Project (ALNO HIP). CARIS was chosen by NHS following a competitive tender process.

MGI is responsible for creating and maintaining terrestrial, nautical and aerial charts of the Albanian territory. The project kicked off in Tirana, Albania on August 24 and CARIS will deliver the software system, which will be followed by an intensive training and consulting program. This will lead to an initial roll-out of the system into production in early 2016.

The addition of CARIS’ proven data management and chart production tools, training programs, and technical support provides MGI with a world-class chart production system to support Albania in its obligations according to Chapter V of the International Maritime Organization SOLAS convention.
