CARIS representative Graciela Inés Lado was recently in Argentina for consultancy with the Servicio de Hidrografía Naval (Naval Hydrographic Service). The consultancy focused on CARIS Hydrographic Production Database (HPD), a database solution for the production of paper charts, Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs), and other product types.
The Naval Hydrographic Service found there were many benefits to using HPD, including the ability to store the data once and create multiple representations for different products. The focus of the consultancy was placed on the population of the database and cartographic production of paper charts and ENCs. Support from the CARIS instructor was essential during the customization tasks, definition of symbols, colours, annotations and other functions.
As a result of the implementation, the group was able to create four ENCs, one of which has been sent to the Security of Navigation Department for revisions and four paper charts, with one ready to be sent for revisions as well.
